You can bash me all you want, but I am a millennial who was sold the ‘college dream’. According to literally everyone when we were teenagers, if you could graduate from a good university, you'd be making 6-figures and have an amazing job, becoming wildly successful within a year of graduation. So without any financial help from my parents, I charged forward to get that fancy degree, counting on the fact that I'd deal with all those loans later. Besides, we were all convinced that we could pay off our student loans within the first year of graduating, right?
However… *checks outstanding student loan balance*… that's not the case for most of us.

But if you were fortunate enough, your parents would either advise you to pay for the college could afford or they would help cover expenses. Parents can only do what's best for their kids, but if your child, whose expenses are paid for, starts complaining about the dollar amount given to them each month, maybe it's time to rethink your generosity.
